My inspiration comes from life, from my lived experience of aging and the passing of time; the ever changing nature of the city where I live and the countryside around my studio; the traces of human life left on buildings and the land. I find many parallels between this and the layering of colour and marks in the screen printing process; how the addition of a particular mark in a certain colour changes the artwork completely, in a moment.

I work on a series of pieces at once, moving between them and responding to each one individually as they develop, leaving one piece to breathe as I add layers, or marks, to another.

By painting directly onto the mesh of a blank silk screen, exposing hand drawn or painted marks onto another, and also adding acrylic paint and hand written text to each piece, I am able to build up colour and texture in the prints over multiple, semi-transparent, layers. Each piece ends up as a unique monoprint.

I am a Printmaker, working mainly with screen printing, currently exploring a painterly approach to using silkscreen printing to create multi-layered, unique, monoprints, usually also including handwritten, or screenprinted text and gold leaf. The words and phrases I use in my pieces are based on my life experience; inspired by the situations that we have all been through in the last couple of years and where we find ourselves now – both socially, politically, and personally. The works explore the meaning and use of words by the media and government to influence, manipulate and confuse us and my own experience of aging, being an artist whilst also running a business and the state of the world as I see it, often humorous and exasperated in equal measure!
